OUR PRODUCTS

Carter Holt Harvey claddings are full exterior structural plywood sheets, which can be used for both decorative and bracing purposes. Produced from Pinus radiata veneers and bonded with phenol formaldehyde resin adhesive (WBP marine bond, type A exterior), the finished sheets are H3 LOSP preservative treated to provide long-term protection from decay.

SHADOWclad groove, SHADOWclad texture are decorative sheets with a band-sawn surface (with a groove profile option) for use on residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

SHADOWclad Groove and SHADOWclad Texture are also available already primed with a special powder coating. This is an advanced powder coating process that's been specially developed for substrates prior to top coating. With a noticeably smoother surface, Primed claddings allow for easier top coat application and give you more square-metre coverage per litre of paint. And because the powder priming process significantly reduces the amount of water absorption, you get a drier surface for top coating.

SHADOWclad applications include

  • Decorative exterior cladding.
  • Residential and commercial buildings.
  • Resorts, hotels & townhouses.
  • Stables and agricultural buildings.
  • Premium industrial structures.
  • Light weight prefrabricated homes & work site offices.
  • High impact cladding/lining for public areas.
  • Excellent for soffits and rustic interiors.
  • Meets BCA 2007 standards.

St Vincents Nursing Home, Noosa Heads

Product:

SHADOWclad® Texture.

1997 Sir Zelman Cowen Award for Public Buildings.
1997 RAIA Commendation: Commercial Environment Citation.

St Vincents Nursing Home in Noosa Heads blends seamlessly with the exotic, coastal environment. Architect John Mainwaring (JMA Architects) used SHADOWclad Texture cladding by Carter Holt Harvey to enhance the serene warmth of the nursing home in this idealic coastal environment.

“We wanted a strong coastal aesthete,” explains Mainwaring. “That meant the cladding was very important to us. The SHADOWclad Texture allowed us to enhance the natural coastal feel. Timber is warm. People seem to have a strong response to it. Therefore we were very keen to create a rich, textured look with the timber. We got that from SHADOWclad Texture.”

SHADOWclad Texture is used for external cladding and bracing. It is made of high grade Radiata pine, with a solid rough sawn face that can be highlighted with battens at set or random spacings, or left as is.

“This is the way of the future,” notes Mainwaring. “There is no doubt about it. I use SHADOWclad in a lot of my work. People like to live in timber environments because of its patina and texture. But we can’t deplete our forests. It’s simply unsustainable to destroy our natural timbers. By designing with cultivated timber, we can maintain the aesthetics and encourage a sound environmental awareness. The uses for plywood are mind boggling. It has limitless applications in the construction industry.”

JMA Architects designed a series of bungalows that makes up St Vincents Nursing Home. In total the facility will hold 120 beds. According to Mainwaring, SHADOWclad Texture is a reliable product which allows for a range of design options, whilst at the same time being structurally sound.

“SHADOWclad is a very reliable product. It’s light and it’s strong and it’s durable. We had no problems with it on site. Being light, it can be cut to size on location and is very easy to use.“

Mainwaring decided to apply an opaque finish coat to the SHADOWclad, so that the timber itself created a collage of interesting patterns. “SHADOWclad Texture looks wonderful from a design point of view, It has a great aesthetic appeal and can be used in inventive ways.”
